What type of verb is write?

"Write" can be either a transitive verb or an intransitive verb, depending on how it's used in a sentence.

Transitive Verb: When "write" takes a direct object, it's a transitive verb. The direct object is the thing being written.

* Example: "I write a letter." (The direct object is "letter.")

Intransitive Verb: When "write" doesn't have a direct object, it's an intransitive verb. This usually means the verb describes an action without a specific object.

* Example: "My pen writes smoothly." (No direct object is being written; the verb describes the pen's ability to write smoothly.)
