What part of speech is a word with ist at the end?

You can't determine the part of speech of a word just by looking at the ending "ist". Here's why:

* "Ist" is a common suffix, but it can be used to create different parts of speech:

* Noun: "artist", "pianist", "scientist"

* Adjective: "nationalist", "realist", "capitalist"

* Verb: "generalize", "specialize"

* Other: "hoist" (verb)

To figure out the part of speech, you need to look at how the word is used in a sentence.

For example:

* "The artist painted a beautiful landscape." (artist is a noun)

* "He had a strong nationalist sentiment." (nationalist is an adjective)

* "The company specializes in software development." (specializes is a verb)
