What type of conjunction begins a subordinate clause?

Subordinate clauses are introduced by subordinating conjunctions.

Here are some examples of subordinating conjunctions:

* Time: after, before, since, until, when, while

* Cause and effect: because, since, so that

* Contrast: although, though, even though

* Condition: if, unless

* Purpose: in order that, so that

* Comparison: as, than

For example:

* Because the weather was bad, we stayed inside. (Subordinating conjunction "because" introduces the subordinate clause "the weather was bad")

* While I was walking, I saw a dog. (Subordinating conjunction "while" introduces the subordinate clause "I was walking")

* If you go to the store, could you buy some milk? (Subordinating conjunction "if" introduces the subordinate clause "you go to the store")
