What is the simple predicate in a sentence?

The simple predicate is the verb or verb phrase that tells what the subject of the sentence is doing or being.

Here's how to find it:

1. Identify the subject: Who or what is the sentence about?

2. Ask "What does the subject do or be?" The answer is the simple predicate.

Example:

* The cat chased the mouse.

* Subject: The cat

* Simple Predicate: chased (the verb)

More examples:

* She is singing beautifully. (Simple predicate: is singing)

* The leaves have fallen from the tree. (Simple predicate: have fallen)

* He will be going to the store. (Simple predicate: will be going)
