What are the three kinds of verbals?

The three kinds of verbals are:

1. Gerunds: Verb forms ending in "-ing" that act as nouns.

* Example: *Swimming* is my favorite hobby.

2. Participles: Verb forms ending in "-ing" (present participle) or "-ed" (past participle) that act as adjectives.

* Example: The *barking* dog scared the children. (present participle)

* Example: The *broken* vase lay on the floor. (past participle)

3. Infinitives: Verb forms preceded by "to" that can act as nouns, adjectives, or adverbs.

* Example: I like *to swim*. (noun)

* Example: The best place *to swim* is at the lake. (adjective)

* Example: She came *to swim* in the ocean. (adverb)
