Here's why:
* Imperative sentences give commands or make requests. They are often direct and forceful, but they still need to end with proper punctuation.
* Periods are the standard punctuation for declarative sentences, which are statements of fact. Since imperative sentences are a type of declarative sentence, they usually end with a period.
However, there are a few exceptions:
* Exclamation points (!) can be used if the imperative sentence expresses strong emotion or urgency:
* "Stop!"
* "Get out of here!"
* Question marks (?) are used if the imperative sentence is a request disguised as a question:
* "Could you please close the door?"
* "Would you mind passing the salt?"
