There are two types of "there" sentences:
1. Existential "There" Sentences: These sentences use "there" to introduce the existence of something. They follow a specific structure:
* There + be verb + subject + rest of the sentence
* Example: There is a cat in the garden.
These sentences are NOT inverted. The subject (cat) follows the be verb (is).
2. Inverted "There" Sentences: These sentences use "there" to indicate location or direction. They follow a standard inverted sentence structure:
* There + verb + subject + rest of the sentence
* Example: There goes the bus.
These sentences ARE inverted because the verb (goes) comes before the subject (bus).
Key Difference: In inverted sentences, the verb comes before the subject, while in existential "there" sentences, the verb comes after the subject.
Therefore, only sentences that begin with "there" and have the verb before the subject are inverted.
