What part of speech joins words phrases or clause?

The part of speech that joins words, phrases, or clauses is a conjunction.

There are three main types of conjunctions:

* Coordinating conjunctions connect words, phrases, or clauses of equal grammatical rank. They include words like and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet.

* Subordinating conjunctions introduce dependent clauses, which are clauses that cannot stand alone. They include words like because, since, although, while, if, unless, until.

* Correlative conjunctions work in pairs to connect words, phrases, or clauses. They include pairs like both...and, either...or, neither...nor, not only...but also.
