What does the suffix -gest mean?

The suffix "-gest" is a superlative suffix, meaning it indicates the highest degree of something. It's used to form the superlative adjectives and adverbs in English.

Here are some examples:

* Biggest: Largest in size.

* Longest: Most extended in length.

* Strongest: Having the most strength.

* Happiest: Feeling the greatest joy.

How it works:

* The suffix "-gest" is usually added to the root word after removing the final "e" or "y" (sometimes changing the "y" to "i").

For example:

* Big + est = Biggest

* Long + est = Longest

* Happy + iest = Happiest

Important Note: Not all superlative adjectives and adverbs use "-gest." Some use "-est" or "-most."
