How do you explain verb to a child?

Imagine you have a toy car. What can you do with the car? You can drive it, crash it, park it, fix it, right? All those words, drive, crash, park, fix, tell us what the car does.

Those words are called verbs. Verbs are action words! They tell us what someone or something is doing.

Let's try another example. What does a bird do? It can fly, sing, eat, sleep. These are all verbs!

Can you tell me some verbs about what you like to do? What do you like to play, eat, or do with your friends?
