Important Note: A linking verb connects a subject to a noun or adjective that renames or describes the subject. The word following the linking verb is called a predicate nominative (if it's a noun) or a predicate adjective (if it's an adjective).
Example:
* The dog is a golden retriever (predicate nominative).
* The dog is friendly (predicate adjective).
