What part or parts of speech can an adverb modify?

Adverbs can modify several parts of speech:

* Verbs: This is the most common function of adverbs. They describe how, when, where, or to what extent an action is performed.

* Example: She quickly ran to the store.

* Adjectives: Adverbs can modify adjectives, providing further description.

* Example: The extremely tall building reached for the sky.

* Other adverbs: Adverbs can modify other adverbs, creating a more complex description.

* Example: The car drove incredibly slowly down the street.

* Phrases: Adverbs can also modify entire phrases.

* Example: Fortunately, she arrived on time. (modifies the phrase "she arrived on time")

Important Note: While adverbs can modify a variety of parts of speech, they cannot modify nouns.
