Is and a conjunction or linking verb?

"Is" is a linking verb.

Here's why:

* Linking verbs connect the subject of a sentence to a noun, pronoun, or adjective that renames or describes the subject.

For example:

* "He is a doctor." ("Is" links "He" to the noun "doctor".)

* "She is happy." ("Is" links "She" to the adjective "happy".)

* Conjunctions connect words, phrases, or clauses.

For example:

* "I like apples and oranges." ("And" connects the nouns "apples" and "oranges".)

* "He went to the store, but he didn't buy anything." ("But" connects the two clauses.)
