Is a main or auxiliary verb?

"Main" is not a verb, so it cannot be classified as a main or auxiliary verb.

Main verbs are the action words in a sentence, expressing what the subject is doing. Examples include:

* run, jump, eat, sleep, think, love.

Auxiliary verbs, also called helping verbs, are used in combination with main verbs to form verb phrases. Common auxiliary verbs include:

* be (am, is, are, was, were)

* have (has, have, had)

* do (do, does, did)

* will, would, shall, should, may, might, can, could, must

To determine whether a word is a main or auxiliary verb, consider the following:

1. Does the word express an action or a state of being? If so, it's likely a main verb.

2. Is the word used in combination with another verb to create a verb phrase? If so, it's likely an auxiliary verb.
