Here's how it works:
* Adjective: slow
* Adverb: slowly
The "-ly" suffix changes the word from describing a noun (adjective) to describing a verb, adjective, or another adverb (adverb).
Examples:
* Quick (adjective) -> Quickly (adverb)
* Happy (adjective) -> Happily (adverb)
* Strong (adjective) -> Strongly (adverb)
However, there are exceptions. Not all words ending in "-ly" are adverbs. Some words are simply adjectives:
* Friendly
* Silly
* Deadly
It's always best to check the context of the word to determine its function in a sentence.
