What is a list of nouns?

It's impossible to list *all* nouns, as the English language constantly evolves with new words and concepts. However, I can give you a list of common noun categories to help you identify nouns:

People:

* boy, girl, man, woman, child, adult, teacher, doctor, student, friend, neighbor

Places:

* house, school, park, city, country, beach, ocean, mountain, forest

Things:

* book, car, phone, computer, table, chair, pencil, ball, flower, tree, water, air

Animals:

* dog, cat, bird, fish, elephant, lion, snake, spider, insect, frog

Abstract Concepts:

* love, happiness, sadness, anger, peace, freedom, justice, knowledge, time, space

Other:

* color (red, blue, green), shape (circle, square, triangle), sound (music, noise), smell (perfume, smoke), taste (sweet, sour, salty)

Remember:

* Nouns can be singular (one) or plural (more than one).

* Nouns can be proper (specific names like John, New York, Amazon River) or common (general names like boy, city, river).

This list is just a starting point. There are many more types of nouns and many ways to categorize them.

To practice identifying nouns, try reading a short story or article and underline all the nouns you find.
