What is an example of a connotation?

Let's say you're describing a house. You could say it's "old" or you could say it's "historic."

* "Old" has a neutral connotation. It simply means the house was built a long time ago.

* "Historic" has a positive connotation. It suggests the house is significant, perhaps even beautiful or culturally important.

Both words describe the house's age, but "historic" carries an added layer of meaning, making the house seem more interesting and valuable. This is an example of connotation.
