What does anomalous mean?

"Anomalous" means deviating from what is standard, normal, or expected. It implies something is unusual, different, or out of place.

Here are some examples of how it can be used:

* "The scientist observed an anomalous reading on the thermometer." (The reading was unexpected and different from what was usually seen.)

* "Her behavior was anomalous for someone who was usually so outgoing." (Her behavior was unusual and did not match her typical personality.)

* "The archaeological discovery of a Roman coin in a Viking burial site was anomalous." (Finding a Roman coin in a Viking burial site was unexpected and out of place.)

Essentially, something is anomalous when it stands out and doesn't fit the pattern or norm.
