What does a pronoun stand for?

A pronoun stands for a noun or noun phrase.

Think of it like a placeholder. Instead of repeating the same noun over and over, you can use a pronoun to refer to it.

Example:

* Noun: "The dog"

* Pronoun: "It"

So, instead of saying "The dog chased its tail and then the dog wagged its tail", you could say "The dog chased its tail and then it wagged its tail".

Types of pronouns:

* Personal pronouns: I, you, he, she, it, we, they

* Possessive pronouns: mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs

* Reflexive pronouns: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves

* Demonstrative pronouns: this, that, these, those

* Indefinite pronouns: someone, anyone, everybody, nothing, etc.

* Relative pronouns: who, whom, whose, which, that
