What is an antonym for preposition?

There isn't a direct antonym for "preposition" in the same way that there are antonyms for words like "hot" and "cold". This is because "preposition" is a grammatical term, not a descriptive word.

However, we can look at the function of prepositions and consider what might be the opposite of their role in a sentence.

* Prepositions show relationships between words: They describe things like location (in, on, under), time (before, after, during), or direction (to, from, towards).

* The opposite of showing a relationship would be to not show a relationship: This might be achieved by using different grammatical structures like verbs that inherently imply relationships, or by simply omitting the connection altogether.

Therefore, while there's no single word that's an antonym for "preposition", the closest we can get is to consider the opposite of the function they perform in a sentence.
