Is diner a long vowel or short word?

"Diner" has a short vowel sound.

Here's why:

* The vowel "i" in "diner" has a short "i" sound, like in "din" or "pin."

* Long vowels are typically associated with a single vowel letter followed by a silent "e" at the end of a word or a vowel digraph (two vowels together). "Diner" doesn't have either of these.
