What part of speech is commonly?

"Commonly" is an adverb.

Here's why:

* It modifies a verb: It tells us *how* something is done. For example: "He commonly eats breakfast at 7 am."

* It can also modify an adjective or another adverb: "She is commonly known as 'the baker.'" (modifies the adjective "known")
