What part of speech is never and always?

"Never" and "always" are adverbs.

Here's why:

* They modify verbs: They describe how often or how frequently an action happens.

* Example: "I never go to the movies." (modifies "go")

* Example: "She always eats breakfast." (modifies "eats")

* They can also modify adjectives or other adverbs:

* Example: "The room was always clean." (modifies "clean")

* Example: "He walked very slowly always." (modifies "slowly")
