Does grape have a short sound?

The sound of "grape" is a bit tricky because it's actually a combination of sounds:

* "Gr" is a blend, meaning it's a combination of two sounds: "g" and "r"

* "A" is a short vowel sound, like the "a" in "cat"

* "P" is a stop consonant

So, while "grape" doesn't have a single short sound, the "a" in "grape" does have a short vowel sound.
