Is camel a long or short vowel word?

"Camel" has a short vowel sound.

Here's why:

* The vowel "a" makes the short "a" sound, like in "cat" or "man".

* Long vowel sounds are usually associated with a vowel followed by a silent "e" or another vowel. "Camel" doesn't have this pattern.
