How do you spell sounds?

You can't spell sounds directly, because sounds are not letters.

We use letters to represent sounds in writing. But the same sound can be spelled in many different ways!

For example, the sound "k" can be spelled:

* c (cat)

* k (kite)

* ck (rock)

* ch (school)

* gh (enough)

To understand how to spell sounds, you need to learn the spelling rules of the language you're studying. There are also many exceptions to these rules, which makes it even more complex.
