What part of speech is anti?

"Anti" is a prefix.

Prefixes are word parts that are added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning. "Anti" means "against" or "opposed to."

Here are some examples:

* antibody

* antisocial

* antidote

While "anti" can be used on its own as a shortened form of "anti-," it's not a standalone word with its own grammatical function. It's always part of a larger word.
