If a noun ends with consonant other than z what do you to make it plural?

You typically add -s to the end of a noun that ends in a consonant other than z to make it plural.

For example:

* cat becomes cats

* book becomes books

* tree becomes trees

There are some exceptions, however.

Here are a few common rules:

* Nouns ending in -ch, -sh, -x, or -s add -es to the end:

* church becomes churches

* bush becomes bushes

* box becomes boxes

* bus becomes buses

* Nouns ending in -y preceded by a consonant change the -y to -ies:

* baby becomes babies

* city becomes cities

* fly becomes flies

Remember that these are general rules and there are always exceptions. It's always helpful to consult a dictionary if you're unsure about the plural form of a word.
