What part of speech is lately?

"Lately" is an adverb.

Here's why:

* Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They tell us *how*, *when*, *where*, *to what extent*, or *why* something happens.

* "Lately" tells us when something happened, usually referring to a recent period of time.

Example:

"I haven't been sleeping well lately." (Lately modifies the verb "been sleeping")
