What does la Belle Époque mean in English?

"La Belle Époque" is a French phrase that translates literally to "The Beautiful Era" in English.

It's not a direct translation of the phrase's meaning, however. It refers to a period of time in late 19th and early 20th century Europe, primarily in France, characterized by optimism, economic prosperity, scientific advancements, and artistic flourishing.

The term is often used retrospectively to describe this period as a golden age, though it wasn't without its own social problems and injustices.
