Does comma have the schwa sound?

The word "comma" itself does not have the schwa sound. It is pronounced with a long "o" sound, as in "come": KOM-uh.

However, the *sound* represented by a comma in written text can sometimes be a schwa. For example, in the word "about", the "a" is often pronounced with a schwa sound.

So, while the word "comma" itself doesn't have the schwa sound, the sound it represents in writing can sometimes be a schwa.
