What are examples of inderect objects?

An indirect object is a noun or pronoun that receives the direct object. It answers the questions "to whom?" or "for whom?"

Here are some examples:

1. Simple Sentences:

* She gave him a present. (The present is the direct object, and "him" is the indirect object. "She gave a present to whom?" - "To him.")

* The teacher assigned me homework. (Homework is the direct object, and "me" is the indirect object. "The teacher assigned homework to whom?" - "To me.")

* He told us a story. (Story is the direct object, and "us" is the indirect object. "He told a story to whom?" - "To us.")

2. Sentences with Prepositional Phrases:

* She gave a present to her brother. (Present is the direct object, "to her brother" is the prepositional phrase, and "her brother" is the indirect object. "She gave a present to whom?" - "To her brother.")

* The teacher assigned homework for the class. (Homework is the direct object, "for the class" is the prepositional phrase, and "the class" is the indirect object. "The teacher assigned homework for whom?" - "For the class.")

3. Sentences with Double Indirect Objects:

* The chef cooked us a delicious meal. ("Us" is the indirect object. "The chef cooked a delicious meal for whom?" - "For us.")

* He bought his sister a new car. ("His sister" is the indirect object. "He bought a new car for whom?" - "For his sister.")

4. Examples with Pronouns:

* I gave him a book. ("Him" is the indirect object.)

* She bought me a coffee. ("Me" is the indirect object.)

* He wrote her a letter. ("Her" is the indirect object.)

Remember: An indirect object doesn't have to be a person. It can be a group, an organization, or even a place.

* I sent the company a letter. ("The company" is the indirect object.)

* He built the city a new bridge. ("The city" is the indirect object.)

I hope these examples help you understand the concept of indirect objects!
