What is a homograph?

A homograph is a word that is spelled the same as another word but has a different meaning and often a different pronunciation.

Here are some examples:

* Bow:

* (noun) A weapon for shooting arrows.

* (noun) A decorative knot made of ribbon.

* (verb) To bend the head or body as a sign of respect or submission.

* Lead:

* (noun) A heavy, soft, grey metal.

* (verb) To guide or direct.

* Wind:

* (noun) Moving air.

* (verb) To twist or wrap something around something else.

Homographs can be tricky, especially when reading or writing, because you might not know which meaning is intended until you understand the context of the sentence.
