What materials did they use to write in cuneiform?

Cuneiform writing was inscribed on a variety of materials, but the most common were:

* Clay tablets: This was the most prevalent material. Soft clay was pressed into tablets of various sizes, and then the cuneiform signs were impressed into the clay using a stylus. The tablets were then left to dry in the sun or baked in a kiln to harden.

* Stone: Inscriptions on stone were usually intended for monuments, royal decrees, or important treaties. These were often large and meant to last for a very long time.

* Metal: Cuneiform was also sometimes inscribed on metal, particularly on bronze or silver. This was usually for smaller objects like seals, plaques, or jewelry.

* Wood: While less common, some examples of cuneiform on wood have been found. This was often used for smaller inscriptions or labels.

It's worth noting that while clay was the most widely used material, the choice of material depended on the intended purpose and longevity of the inscription.
