What is the origin of word banksia?

The word "Banksia" comes from Sir Joseph Banks, a prominent British botanist who was also the naturalist on Captain James Cook's first voyage to the Pacific Ocean (1768-1771).

During the voyage, Banks encountered and collected numerous specimens of the unique and striking plant genus now known as Banksia. He was so impressed by these plants that he named the genus in his own honor.

The genus was formally described and named by the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus the Younger in 1782, who dedicated it to Sir Joseph Banks.
