The parts of speech animate?

Parts of speech are grammatical concepts, not living things. Therefore, they are not "animate".

Here's why:

* Parts of speech describe the function of words in a sentence. They tell us how words are used, not whether they are living or not.

* Animate refers to living things. For example, a cat is animate, but a rock is inanimate.

* Words are symbols. They represent concepts and ideas, but they don't have life themselves.
