How are most plural nouns formed?

Most plural nouns in English are formed by adding -s to the singular form.

Examples:

* cat - cats

* dog - dogs

* book - books

* table - tables

However, there are a few exceptions to this rule:

* Nouns ending in -s, -x, -ch, -sh, or -z: Add -es to the singular form.

* bus - buses

* box - boxes

* church - churches

* dish - dishes

* quiz - quizzes

* Nouns ending in -y preceded by a consonant: Change the -y to -ies.

* baby - babies

* city - cities

* story - stories

* Nouns ending in -f or -fe: Change the -f or -fe to -ves.

* knife - knives

* wife - wives

* wolf - wolves

* Irregular nouns: These nouns have irregular plural forms.

* child - children

* man - men

* woman - women

* tooth - teeth

* mouse - mice

Remember: There are also some nouns that have the same form in singular and plural, such as sheep, deer, and fish.
