What are the four types of noun?

There isn't a universally accepted classification of nouns into exactly four types. However, a common way to categorize nouns is based on their function and meaning:

1. Common Nouns: These are general names for people, places, things, or ideas. They are not capitalized unless they start a sentence.

* Examples: dog, city, book, happiness

2. Proper Nouns: These are specific names for people, places, or things. They are always capitalized.

* Examples: Fido, New York City, The Bible, Tuesday

3. Concrete Nouns: These represent things that can be touched or perceived by the senses.

* Examples: table, flower, water, cloud

4. Abstract Nouns: These represent ideas, qualities, or concepts that cannot be touched or seen.

* Examples: love, justice, freedom, happiness

Other categories of nouns are sometimes mentioned, such as:

* Collective Nouns: Names for groups of people, animals, or things.

* Examples: team, flock, herd, jury

* Count Nouns: Can be counted as singular or plural.

* Examples: apple, book, chair, friend

* Mass Nouns: Cannot be counted as individual units, but can be measured.

* Examples: water, air, rice, furniture

It's important to note that these categories can overlap. For example, "team" is a collective noun, but it can also be a common noun.
