How many apostrophes are there in the English language?

This is a bit of a trick question! There's only one apostrophe symbol (') in the English language.

However, it has many different uses:

* Contractions: I'm, can't, shouldn't

* Possessives: John's book, the cat's tail

* Missing letters: it's (it is), o'clock

* Plurals of letters or numbers: two A's, the 1920's

So, while there's only one symbol, it can appear many times in a sentence or text!
