When did scholars invent the Korean alphabet?

The Korean alphabet, known as Hangul, was not invented by scholars, but by King Sejong the Great of the Joseon dynasty.

He commissioned a group of scholars to develop the alphabet, but he was the driving force behind its creation. He personally participated in the design process and promoted its use.

Hangul was officially proclaimed on October 9, 1446.
