Which part of speech is recently?

"Recently" is an adverb.

Here's why:

* It modifies a verb: It tells us *when* something happened. For example, "I recently went to the store."

* It can also modify an adjective or another adverb: "It's recently been raining." (modifies the adjective "raining")
