"Cibola" is a Spanish word derived from the Zuni word "Shi-wila," which means "place of the buffalo".

It was originally used to refer to the Zuni Pueblo in what is now New Mexico, but later became synonymous with the legendary "Seven Cities of Gold" sought by Spanish conquistadors.
