What type of noun is community?

"Community" is a collective noun.

Here's why:

* Collective nouns refer to a group of people or things considered as a single unit.

* While a community is made up of individual people, we think of it as a unified whole.

* We use singular verbs with collective nouns when we're focusing on the group as a single entity. For example, "The community *is* planning a festival."
