There are two main dialects of Albanian:
* Tosk - Spoken in southern Albania, Kosovo, and parts of Greece and Macedonia. This is considered the standard dialect and is the basis for the official Albanian language.
* Geg - Spoken in northern Albania, Montenegro, and parts of Kosovo, Serbia, and North Macedonia.
While Albanian is the primary language, there are also a number of other languages spoken in Albania and Kosovo due to historical and cultural factors. These include:
* Greek - Spoken in the southern regions bordering Greece.
* Serbian - Spoken in the northern regions bordering Serbia and Montenegro.
* Macedonian - Spoken in the eastern regions bordering North Macedonia.
* Turkish - Spoken by a significant minority in both countries, due to the Ottoman Empire's influence.
* Romani - Spoken by a significant minority group, primarily in the southern regions of Albania.
In addition to these, there are also a variety of smaller language communities within Albania and Kosovo.
