Why is Switzerland a French-speaking country?

Switzerland is not a French-speaking country. It is a multilingual country with four official languages:

* German (spoken by about 63% of the population)

* French (spoken by about 23% of the population)

* Italian (spoken by about 8% of the population)

* Romansh (spoken by about 0.5% of the population)

While French is one of the official languages of Switzerland, it's not the dominant one. The country's linguistic diversity is a result of its history and geographical location, bordering on France, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein.
