Who made spelling?

No one person "made" spelling. It's a complex process that evolved over centuries, shaped by various factors:

* Language Evolution: Languages change naturally over time, and spelling systems try to reflect those changes.

* Early Scribes: In ancient times, scribes developed ways to represent sounds using written symbols. These systems were often inconsistent and varied between regions.

* Printing Press: The invention of the printing press in the 15th century standardized spellings to some degree, but inconsistencies remained.

* Language Academies: Organizations like the Académie Française (French) and the Royal Society (English) attempted to regulate spelling, but their influence was limited.

* Dictionaries: Dictionaries have played a key role in standardizing spelling, but they also reflect existing usage, not necessarily a "correct" form.

It's important to note: Spelling is not static; it continues to evolve, and there is often debate about "correct" spellings. So, there's no single person responsible for spelling. It's a product of many influences and ongoing change.
