What type of punctuation is a virgule?

A virgule is another name for a slash (/). While not considered a distinct punctuation mark in itself, it has multiple uses:

* Separating items in a list: "red/white/blue"

* Indicating alternatives: "Mr./Mrs."

* Representing dates: "05/12/2023"

* Indicating a ratio: "1/2"

* Representing divisions in text: "Chapter 1/Section 2"

* Indicating a website address: "www.example.com"

* Representing a fraction: "3/4"

So, while not a punctuation mark in the traditional sense, the slash (virgule) is a useful symbol with several functions in writing and online communication.
