* Person: teacher, student, doctor, friend

* Place: school, hospital, park, city

* Thing: book, computer, car, table

* Idea: love, freedom, happiness, justice

Verbs: (actions, states of being)

* Action: run, jump, sing, eat

* State of being: be, seem, feel, appear

Adjectives: (describe nouns)

* Size: big, small, tiny, enormous

* Color: red, blue, green, yellow

* Shape: round, square, triangular, rectangular

* Quality: happy, sad, angry, beautiful

Adverbs: (describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs)

* Manner: quickly, slowly, carefully, loudly

* Time: now, later, yesterday, tomorrow

* Place: here, there, everywhere, nowhere

* Degree: very, extremely, really, quite

Examples of Content Words in Sentences:

* The cat ran quickly across the street. (cat, ran, quickly, street** are content words)

* She is a beautiful woman. (woman, beautiful are content words)

* They are eating pizza in the restaurant. (eating, pizza, restaurant are content words)

Remember: Content words are the most important words in a sentence because they carry the main information. Without them, a sentence would be meaningless.
