What are the 4 types of sentence?

There are actually four main types of sentences, categorized by their purpose and the way they end:

1. Declarative Sentence: These sentences make a statement. They are the most common type of sentence and end with a period (.).

* Example: "The cat sat on the mat."

2. Interrogative Sentence: These sentences ask a question. They always end with a question mark (?).

* Example: "Did the cat sit on the mat?"

3. Imperative Sentence: These sentences give a command or make a request. They often end with a period (.) but can also end with an exclamation point (!).

* Example: "Sit on the mat, cat."

* Example: "Please sit on the mat, cat!"

4. Exclamatory Sentence: These sentences express strong emotion or surprise. They always end with an exclamation point (!).

* Example: "The cat is sitting on the mat!"
