Does anybody know of a program that tells you how many words are in your essay?

You don't need a specific program for that! Most word processors and text editors have a built-in word count feature. Here's how to find it in some popular options:

* Microsoft Word: Go to the "Review" tab and click on "Word Count."

* Google Docs: Click on "Tools" then "Word Count."

* Apple Pages: Go to "Format" then "Word Count."

* Notepad/TextEdit: These basic editors don't have a built-in word count, but you can copy and paste your text into a word processor or use an online word counter (see below).

Online Word Counters:

If you prefer a dedicated online tool, there are many free options available. Just search for "online word counter" and you'll find plenty of websites. Some popular ones include:

* WordCounter.net

* Character Count Tool

* Online-Text-Tools.com

These tools often offer additional features like character count, reading time estimates, and more.

Bonus Tip: Many websites and online platforms also have built-in word count tools, such as social media posts, forums, and even email services.
